Here are 3 ways an exercise treadmill can help you lose weight and burn more calories:

#1 Walk on an Incline

Walking burns calories - but walking on an incline burns mega-calories. In fact you can burn up to 5 times the calories walking on a high incline treadmill (also called an incline trainer) vs walking on a flat level treadmill.

This is because incline walking uses more of the larger muscles of your legs - and using more muscles means more calories burned. So if you want to increase your calorie burn, you may want to consider an incline trainer treadmill - or just a treadmill with a higher 15% incline.

#2 Try Interval Training

Don't want to walk at a 20% incline for a half hour straight? No problem. Interval training on an exercise treadmill can also help you burn lots of calories.

Interval training is where you increase your exertion for a short time during your workout (1 - 2 minutes), either by increasing your speed or incline.

So you might walk at 3.0 MPH for 5 minutes and then run at 4.5 MPH for 1 minute. Then walk 3.0 MPH for 10 minutes and then walk at 15% incline for 2 minutes.

By building in these high-intensity intervals, you force your body to increase metabolism and burn calories faster. Studies have also shown that the body continues to burn more calories post workout after an interval training workout vs a regular no-interval workout.

#3 Add Some Extra Minutes To Your Workout

If you want to get fast results and don't want to necessarily increase your exertion (as in #1 and #2 above), you can also increase your workout time to get faster weight loss results.

But it doesn't have to be boring. In fact there are so many things to do on your treadmill these days that you can easily add 15 minutes onto your workout without even realizing it.

Did you know for example, that many exercise treadmills nowadays come with iPod docks and speakers? So you can plug in your iPod and play your favorite tunes through the built-in console speakers. Or listen to your favorite audiobook.

There are treadmills with TV's attached so you can watch your favorite shows. There are also some treadmills that connect to the Internet and deliver new workouts to you where a personal trainer coaches you through the workout.

And one treadmill manufacturer is even adding a built-in Internet browser to their new treadmill consoles - so you can surf the Net and read your emails while you walk.

If you already have a treadmill, you could also invest in a treadmill desk and put your laptop on it so you can surf the net, send emails or read the latest news while you walk. So there are many enjoyable ways to spend your time while walking that will increase your workout time without you even realizing it.

In order to naturally increase your metabolism we need to know some of the factors that can affect it. One of those factors is the health of your thyroid gland. THE AFFECT OF AGE ON METABOLISM

As we age our metabolic rate slows. This slowdown is more pronounced after the age of 40. For each decade after that the rate slows between 2% and 5%. There are mainly two reasons for this.

EATING A BALANCED DIET IS IMPORTANT

In order to keep metabolism operating at peak performance your body needs a well balanced diet. Different food groups provide different sources of energy and nutrients that your body needs. If you are lacking in a particular food group you not only lower your metabolism but run the risk of being deficient in vitamins and nutrients that your body requires. Remember that your body will thank you for eating a balanced diet.
