Do (Metabolism boosting) diet pills work?
I don't want people, who have never used these pills, leaving answers saying not to try them because its a waste of money.. please. I would like to hear answers from those who have used them personally.

If there is any that works, please tell me what you use.

  • QUESTION:
    Metabolism boosting?
I'm an active, 25 year old female. It's been suggested to me to try a three day metabolism boosting 'diet' of mainly lean ground beef and green veggies to 'flush' out the carbs and get my body more focused on burning those last stubborn 3 pounds. Does this work? Will you put the 3 pounds back on the 4th day when you reintroduce you carbs? I'm not looking for a lifestyle change to low-carb dieting... I don't buy into that at all. But will a 3 day program offer a boost?

I work out 6 days a week for at least 1.5 hours (including cardio/strength training/stretching) with a goal to (besides kill those last 3 pounds) tone up my muscles and it seems like my body may suffer without the carbs with that routine.

    any thoughts?

    • ANSWER:
I think the diet you are talkign about is the TNT diet. In fact this diet is actaul a 12 week plan during whihc the first 4 weeks advocates mow carbs via eating only vegetables and some fruits. Then as you move into 5th week on, you introduce a few meal of normal carbs from grains.

The thing is if you reduce the amount of protein you eat and increase the carbs the equation remains the same if you substitute in the right quantities. Both have 4 calories per gram so if you just keep the amoont of grams the same but change the protein for carbs you should not get any weight gain.

I would like to highlight to you that wiht oyur exercise routine and intensity...you should have some carbs before your exercise and some after, They should not be unhealthy but quick absorbing sugars like fruits. Also low ccarb does not mean no carb. You can eat as much vegeatbles as you can without feeling stuffed. vegetables are full of water and fibre and low incalories, You feel full but wihtout the calories. Good Luck

  • QUESTION:
Is there a diet pill that actually works in boosting metabolism?
I already work out and eat pretty well, but I really do have a slow metabolism. I'm not looking to lose any major weight, and I'm not looking for a pill that promises huge results. I also don't want a diuretic. I basically just want something that helps metabolism.
    • ANSWER:
I have found that getting the proper amount of vitamins and exercise is about the only way. Exercise everyday and building a little muscle is about it. I take Women's one-a-day weight smart and it does seem to give me a lot more energy so think it may be working alongside exercise. Green tea and caffeine does give you a slight metabolic boost but exercise is the only way to permanently change your body's chem. It is hard at first to get into the rhythm of daily exercise but once you get in the hang of it you will see your metabolism and health sky-rocket!
  • QUESTION:
Foods and exercises that boost metabolism? Diet sodas and dieting. Fast weight loss?
I would like to lose weight quickly and was wondering how diet sodas affect diets. I love diet sodas. I know that when you drink them they can make you want to eat more because it makes your body think that it had more sugar since diet sodas are sweet. Is there anything else they do to ruin diets? Let's say I drank diet soda and tryed really hard not to eat too much because of the diet soda, and I succeeded. Will it still affect my diet? How?
    • ANSWER:
      > Is there anything else they do to ruin diets?

The real culprit is not the sugar--artificial or not.

It is one's addiction to sweets. The habit.

If one's craving does not go away, eventually he finds himself back to the same pit. The dieting cycle is endless. Taking up diet soda is only addressing the end of the problem, not the root of the problem. And manufacturers understand this fact, so they appease their consumers. They keep consumers wanting sugar so they can profit.

In America a lot of things are designed to the effect of dependence.

One day you drink diet soda, the other day you want brownies, another day you get fat-free ice-cream. You are convinced you will not gain weight because, on paper, you cancel out all the sweet calories with that diet soda. See how this doesn't work? The whole regime keeps you coming back. It robs your focus. Instead of focusing on the positive image, your focus is on "How to not gain weight from EATING SUGAR." Your mindset still depends on consuming it.

If you can quit anything for 30 days, the rest is easier. And you begin to focus on something else, and eventually you forget about it. Come on, you can do it!!!!!

I would really appreciate any feedback. Thank You
    • ANSWER:
No pills. Your body thinks You are starving it - so now it is storing every bit of food it can. You need to eat fresh- several times a day and drink lots of water. keep working out. Spicy food boost your metabolism. Do not eat prepackaged foods. Fresh is best - no sodas and watch your salt intake. You body is smart-- if you feel hungry- then you are not eating often enough. Same if you are thirsty - you aren't drinking enough - once you feel these- you are losing the battle- and your body goes into survival mode- afraid you won't give it the fuel it needs to survive.

  • QUESTION:
Diet pills and protein bars?? Or just stick with a healthy diet?
I've been in the gym, working very hard for five weeks. I've also incorporated a very healthy diet. I've lost 12 pounds so far, and Im thrilled with the results. However, a trainer at the gym explained that the first 10 lbs. are easy, it becomes a true effort after that. She suggested eating protein bars or shakes after my workout, and even a metabolism boosting diet pill each day. First, is this info correct, and second, there are so many bars and pills out there, what should I take??
    • ANSWER:
AS a personal trainer, I would NEVER suggest a client take a weight loss pill. ANd I don't subscribe to the fact that the first 10 are the easiest...... if you are following a sensible diet, and change your routine every 8 weeks or so, you will continue to see results.

protein bars, are, in my opinion, nothin more than glorified candy bars... there are a few good ones, but I would rather see a client eat a real meal of HEALTHY food that a bar.

protein shakes are very good post workout... amke sure the one you use is not full of sugar and other junk. Syntrax makes a great one called Nectar, which has 0 net carbs, 28 grams protein, mixes instantly with water, tastes great, ( I like the fuzzy navel), and has only 90 calories per serving. Try mixing it with 1 cup non fat plain yogurt and 1/2 cup berries for a nutritious post workout snack.

  • QUESTION:
How to boost metabolism while on the crash diet?
    • ANSWER:
You probably won't like this but the who concept of a diet slows down your metabolism. When you don't eat what your used to the body will slow itself down (metabolism included) in order to preserve fats and nutrients. When people eat 8 small meals a day their metabolism sky rockets, so here is the best I can tell you. There are pills that are made to give temporary boost to metabolism but they are not supposed to be used while on a diet. When your metabolism increases your body consumes nutrients and if your not taking in enough calories you run the risk of passing out or worse. I don't recommend doing this but it is basically the only way if your dieting.

If your interested the best path would be to increase what your eating but just make it healthy, fruits, veggies and lean meats (turkey and chicken). And don't eat it all at once, eat a bunch of small meals through the day and you will start dropping weight faster than you will on a diet.

    • ANSWER:
Here is a day. Message me for a week. Mark me as best answer for a month plan.

      One day meal plan:

Breakfast - Smoothie with 1 cup of mixed berries, half a cup of milk, half a cup of ice cubes, and 1-1 and 1/2 scoops of protein powder. I use power bar vanilla flavor.

Snack 1 - Protein bar. I use "23 grams of protein".

Lunch - Sandwich with low fat meat, low sodium cheese, and whole wheat bread. Vegetables, or salad with low fat dressing.

Snack 2 - Cooked soy nuts (salt them to add flavor).

Dinner Option 1 - Cooked fish (halibut preferably) with low fat lemon sauce and long grain rice, plus mixed vegetables or salad. Add bread or a roll if you need more calories.

Dinner Option 2 - Hard noodles that you boil, plus low fat meat sauce or tomato sauce. If neither appeals to you add pesto sauce. Plus bread or a roll for extra calories.

Remember to drink 64 ounces of water per day, approximately 8 large glasses. This helps to make you feel full, quench thirst, and flush out any bad stuff inside you.

This meal plan will not only help you build the muscle that you want, but shed any fat off you may have.

      Goodluck on your diet.

  • QUESTION:
What about if you take some pills to boost your metabolism along with diet pills? how fast would that work?
can you mix the two? and what ones of each are actually going to work and work fast?.....preferably with NO dramatic side effects
    • ANSWER:
No this doesn't sound like a good idea. it might be too much for you it's like double the dose. Sounds pretty risky.

If you need to lose weight fast and have no medical issues. Drink lots of water, eat a diet of lots of greens anyway you want to make them and exercise or walk for an hour morning and night. The exercise speeds up your metabolism, morning and night, keeps it going strong all day. Drinking water will help to keep you felling full and the greens are normally free foods, not many calories, and not too bulky. Add to this a filler of whole grain cereal and an apple--You'll be pleasantly surprised--Most people can't stick with this though--it takes incredible willpower.

  • QUESTION:
What is a good diet, and exercise program, that will give me a higher Metabolism?
I'm looking to get on a diet, and exercise to lose weight, and also boost my metabolism. Any ideas?
    • ANSWER:
      Hi,

Intentional weight loss is a deliberate attempt to lose weight. Although there are many programmes to help lose weight, the only proven long-term and safe method is to burn more calories than are ingested. This is achieved either by reducing the caloric intake (eat less food or healthier food) or by increasing the energy expenditure (exercise more). Often, behaviour modification techniques like eating smaller portions are also used to help control eating habits. Once the weight is lost, these habits can be modified slightly for weight maintenance.

One pound of fat contains approximately 3,500 calories, so to lose one pound a week, a person should consume approximately 3,500 fewer calories per week. This can be done by reducing the daily intake by 500 calories per day (500 x 7 days will provide a deficit of 3,500 calories per week). To lose 2 pounds per week, a deficit of 1,000 calories per day is required. If this seems impossible, physical activity also contributes significantly to weight loss. The deficit of 500 to 1,000 calories can come from a combination of increased physical activity and reduced intake on a daily basis. Therefore, one does not need to experience significant food deprivation. The lowest intake per day recommended for females is 1,200 calories, unless they are in a medically-supervised, very low-calorie regimen which may have a daily level of 500 to 800 calories per day. The lowest level recommended for males is 1,500 calories per day. A very low-calorie diet can also be used by males if they are in a medically-supervised programme.

A key to weight maintenance and weight loss is to increase daily activity - things like taking the stairs, rather than the elevator or walking rather than driving when possible make a real difference.

Few tips to bring about weight loss as well as ensuring good health:

1.Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, and grain products like wheat.

2.Increase the consumption of complex carbohydrates like whole wheat, millet (jowar) and barley (bajra)

3.Restrict refined products such as flour (maida) and its products such as bread, noodles, macaronis and pastas in regular diet

4.Restrict fat and cholesterol rich foods. Only non-vegetarian foods (like eggs and dairy products) are good sources of cholesterol, however saturated fatty acids present in butter, ghee, vanaspati and coconut get metabolised to cholesterol in our body

5.Reduce the amount of sugars consumed

6.Consume raw fruits and vegetables in form of salads and raitas in every meal. These provide adequate vitamins, minerals and fibre. Fibre is essential as it aids in digestion, has an effective role in managing obesity and cardiovascular problems

      7.Limit salt intake

8.Have small portions of food at a time

      9.Do not skip meals

      10.Have regular meal timings

11.Do not eat while cooking and watching television

12.Drink plenty of water (6-8 glasses) in a day

13.Exercise regularly. Do brisk walking at least for 20-40 minutes in a day
The best exercises that are sustainable and safe to loose weight are aerobic exercises. Aerobic exercises usually involve vigorous exercises sustained over a period of several minutes and their effect is to increase the efficiency of the lungs, heart and blood circulation, which are collectively known as the aerobic system. Short and sharp bursts of activity which rely on the body's reserves of oxygen do not produce a similar improvement. Exercises should increase strength and mobility and also aid relaxation. You can choose walking, swimming, bicycling as per your fitness level and increase gradually. You should plan on 20-minute sessions at least 3 times per week. Gradual changes in eating habits will help encourage a permanent lifestyle change. A slow weight loss of 1 or 2 pounds a week, until the desirable body weight is reached, is best.

  • QUESTION:
Diet Pill Metabolism Boost after Celexa Weight Gain Suggestions?
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations to the road back to my original weight.
I had been on Celexa medication for 8 months, in this period of time I have gained 15 pounds. I have been off the pills now for 2 months and am trying to shead the weight but am struggling. I am not overweight and others wouldnt think Im fat but for me personally I have a really hard time accepting the extra weight .
It seems my metabolism has totally stopped and slowed to a hault.
I have never had an issue with weight before.
My eating and exercise habits have not changed so it's really difficult to understand and accept.
Does anyone have any recommendations regarding ways to help improve my metabolism and internal balance?
I know that the SSRI inhibitors affect metabolism, after having done some research wondering what was going on.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
I dont know how to comment after someone's post.
THank you for the suggestion but it appears that suppliment is not available in Canada.

  • QUESTION:
Are there any small size diet pills or vitamins I can take?
I am not particularly looking for diet pills but more-so multivitamins that are about the size of Tylenol or Advil. Even when i cut the pills they are still too thick for me to swallow, so if there are any suggestions for working multivitamins (hopefully some with green tea or boosting metabolism) or even diet pills (just to consider) it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!
    • ANSWER:
Check with the pharmacist at your drugstore. They can look up the size of the pills so you don't end up spending money on pills you can't swallow.

    boosting my metabolism after dieting...?
i didnt really mean for it to happen but i ate until i was full and such and i ate healthy but all the healthy food didnt have enough calories so i am only eating about 800-950 calories a day. ): and i dont want my metabolism to be slowing down.

i do exercise 5-7 days a week and i drink the recommended 64 oz. of water. but i'm scared that i slowed down my metabolism ):

btw: i'm fifteen. female. and 130 pounds. i recently lost about 40 pounds... over a 5-6 month period.

    • ANSWER:
congrats on losing 40 pounds! As for your question. Your metabolism has already slowed down! Between the combination of your diet and exercise. You're simply not getting enough calories for the amount of physical activities you engage in.

Sedentary folks need about 1200 to 1300 calories a day. Seeing that you're active you should at least be getting this amount I just stated.

Here's one way to quickly get your metabolism back in sync. Add some snacks in between meals. Apples, yogurt, nuts, are great choices.

So here's what you could be doing:

      breakfast
      mid-morning snack
      lunch
      mid-afternoon snack
      after-workout snack
      dinner

This will help you give fuel to your body. You don't want to pass out on the treadmill after all. Your body burns calories for fuel. So you need to make sure you have enough fuel.

With the amount of exercise you are doing even if you increase your calories to 1300 you should have no problem keeping the weight off.

  • QUESTION:
Does Diet coke boost your metabolism, slow it down or nothing at all?
because I have two friends, one of thems pretty fat and he eats lots but drinks just diet coke, and my other friend eats lots as well but hes thin as a rake
    • ANSWER:
Drinking diet coke will not affect your metabolism.
But diet coke (or any other drinks that have sugar) can make you gain weight. Diet coke might have lower calories but something is making that drink sweet. Your body will take that sugar and convert into fat and store it if you are not exercising and burning it off. (eating alot does not help either)

Metabolism largely dependent on how you eat,and how much you exercise. (genetics also plays a role). I also read somewhere that the types of food and amount of you food you consume during your childhood will dictate your weight as a grown up. (But everything can be reversed with hard work and training)

    Boosting Your metabolism?
Up until a few months ago I was in good shape 10.5 percent body fat and exercising everyday but I lost my job so I couldn't pay for my gym membership. During that time I was stuck at home and kept eating like I always did around 3200 Calories per day now I'm up to 18.7 percent body fat and I have no energy to do anything. I got my membership back so it's a start. I'm wondering what is the best way to boost your metabolism, I've heard about the all protein diet to boost your metabolism but I don't have the money to spend on steaks everyday. I really hate feeling lazy like this, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    • ANSWER:
Besides exercise, there's plenty of ways to modify your diet to increase your metabolism.

First, you need to eat about 6 or 7 small meals throughout the day instead of just 2 or 3 larger meals. What this does is gives your body fuel to keep your metabolism up, but not too much food so that it has excess it needs to store.

Second, drink a lot more water. Keeping hydrated naturally prevents your metabolism from slowing down.

Third, there's some supplements you can try like green tea.
Not only is it loaded with antioxidents, but naturally helps speed up your metabolism. Caffeine does that also, but its not worth drinking soda because of all the sugar, and coffee isn't worth it unless its black.

Otherwise, try to get back to doing more exercise.

      Good luck!

The 6 meal a day diet only good for people who want to become muscley?
Ive heard about this 6 meal a day diet. Aparently it boosts metabolism, helps you loose weight, sustains appetite.
But is it only a good diet for guys who want to weight train and want bigger arms? and so on.
Because i want to loose weight but i dont want to gain huge biceps and muscles.
anyone done it or know much about it?
    • ANSWER:
I eat about 6 meals a day. This is because I reach my satisfaction point very fast each meal and will get hungry every three hours or so. It does help to boost metabolism, helped me and others lose weight and remove hunger pangs.
More importantly it is the type of foods you are eating.

If you eat 6 meals of simple carbs, the above benefits are not going to happen.

This diet does not build muscles. It is great for burning fats. To build muscles, you have to weight train.

I am on low carb, low fat, high fibre, high protein and a hour brisk walk 5 times a week, and I have lost 31lbs/14kg and gained better health. I am now maintaining my 108lbs/49kg for more than a year, with more fruits and complex carbs.

Details such as my experience, meals, recipes, foods to buy, reading labels, walking as an exercise and to shape the body etc etc, are in my blog.

if this isn't so good, correct me!

thanks so much i REALLY appreciate it! (: x

    • ANSWER:
No. That diet is absolutly awfull and if anything it will make your metabolism WORSE. It's ALL carbs, no protein at all. Carbs make you gain FAT. So it's stupid eating a load of them whilst trying to maintain your weight. You should add more calories into your diet, for example increase your calories by 100-200 every week. This WILL repair your metabolism as this is what anorexics have to do during recovery. Gradually your body will be able to handle around 2200 calories without gaining.

      Low Carb Dieting Tip
Your rate of metabolism dictates how many calories you burn. Heredity, gender, age, body size. diet and nutrition, activity level, and your overall health factor in on determining how high or low your metabolism is. It is normal for metabolism levels to lower as a person ages. Because of this it is important to begin stepping up your exercise routines in your thirties and forties.

      Ways to Boost Your Metabolism

Eat Regularly - Eating 5-6 small meals throughout the day will give you energy throughout the day--helping you to burn calories. Whereas, calories eaten during larger meals tend to get stored as fat.
Maintain a Balanced Diet - Not only how often you eat is important, but your food choices are equally as important. Nurture you body with the appropriate balance of protein and carbs.

Eating whole foods rather than processed food gives your digestive system a workout that burns calories. For example: choose an apple over apple juice.
Workout with Weights - Building muscle mass will replace stored fat. As you build muscle tissue your metabolism increases.
Don't Forget Cardio - You need to get that heart rate up and breathe a little heavier. Twenty to thirty minutes of cardiovascular activity 5 days a week is recommended. Brisk walking or swimming are good. Or utilize exercise equipment (exercise bike, treadmill, or elliptical trainer)
Fruits and vegetables are clearly an important part of a good diet. Almost everyone can benefit from eating more of them, but variety is as important as quantity. No single fruit or vegetable provides all of the nutrients you need to be healthy. The key lies in the variety of different fruits and vegetables that you eat.
